J. Michael Chennault
University and Medical Center Ombudsman
Michael began his tenure in the Office of the Ombudsman in 1999 in which he served as an Associate Ombudsman. Prior to his coming to the office, Michael served for 12 years in Student Affairs.
In 2007, after a nationwide search, he was named the Director of the Office of the Ombudsman.
Michael’s working knowledge of the campus and medical center’s organizational structure and cultures coupled with the many relationships that he has forged over the years, has positioned him to lead the Office of the Ombudsman to provide effective informal dispute resolution measures to the campus and medical center communities.
He holds a B.A. in Psychology and a M.S. in Counseling from San Diego State University. He also holds a M.A. in Educational Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. In addition, Michael is a state certified mediator and has extensive experience in mediating two party and complex departmental disputes.
Senior Associate Ombudsman
|Jennifer serves as a Senior Associate Ombudsman for the University of California, Irvine (UCI). She holds a Master of Dispute Resolution from the Straus Institute at Pepperdine Law School, as well as an M.B.A. from the Paul Merage School of Business at UCI. She is also a Certified Organizational Ombudsman Practitioner. After completing graduate school, Jennifer worked as Director of Operations for a private dispute resolution provider, and then as one of the Ombudsman for UCLA. Jennifer has also mediated cases for the university and court systems. Jennifer served as a member of the Board of Directors for the International Ombudsman Association from 2008-2017, and she currently serves on the Board of Certification for Certified Organizational Ombudsman Practitioners.|
Associate OmbudsmanDirector of the Basic Mediation Training Program
|Shawn Hutchens serves as an Associate Ombudsman for the University of California, Irvine. She holds a Master of Dispute Resolution from the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law. Shawn has performed mediations in Northern and Southern California Superior Courts as well as in the private and non-profit sectors. Prior to working in alternative dispute resolution, Shawn worked in the legal field providing case management in a wide range of practice areas. Additionally, Shawn served students and families as a youth director with a special interest in mentoring, team-building and cross-cultural education.|
